CLEANING AFTER CARE / GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Cleaning After Care:

Thank you for using our cleaning services today!  Here are a few suggestions which will help you to maintain your recently cleaned home.

1.  Minimize walking on freshly cleaned carpets or area rugs while they are still damp.  If you must walk on these items, please walk on the traffic lane paper which has been provided by MCP.  DO NOT REMOVE TRAFFIC LANE PAPER, FURNITURE TABS OR STYROFOAM BLOCKS UNTIL CARPETING IS DRY TO THE TOUCH.  OTHERWISE, THE POSSIBILITY OF RESOILING AND STAINING MAY OCCUR.  Check area rugs for colorfastness before putting them back over carpet, as the dyes in some rugs may bleed through to the carpet.  Allow carpets to fully dry before replacing area rugs.

2.  Do not sit on freshly cleaning furniture items if they are still damp to the touch.  Please leave any pillows in an upright position while they dry.

3.  To speed the drying process, please leave windows open, turn on ceiling fans and turn on central heating.  Turning on central heating is the most effective way to decrease drying time.

General Maintenance Tips:

1.  Use walk-off mats at all entrances to absorb soil and moisture.  Mats should be cleaned on a regular basis so that they do not become sources of soil themselves.  Sidewalks and entrances should be kept free of excessive dirt.

2.  Occasionally move heavy furniture to avoid excessive pile crushing. Put coasters intended for use with carpet under the legs of tables, chairs, and other furniture to help distribute the weight and prevent crushing the pile. Do not use chairs or appliances with rollers or casters on carpet without a chair pad designed for carpet. Continued use without a chair pad can cause damage to the carpet.

3.  Protect your furnishings and floor coverings from prolonged periods of direct sunlight.  Overexposure to direct sunlight can damage and bleach carpets and upholstery.  Be sure to check that your exterior windows have proper UV tinting.

4.  Regularly vacuum your carpets (at least once per week). Area rugs, furniture, draperies and window treatments should also be vacuumed regularly.  Vacuum areas which experience heavy wear or traffic lanes even more frequently.  Be sure to change your vacuum bag when it is full and use a vacuum with a beater bar.

5.  Carpet cleaning is recommended every 6 to 18 months by the IICRC, depending on levels of usage.  Carpet cleaning promotes health and hygiene and protects your carpet investment.  It will also keep your carpet warranty in place.  As a general rule of thumb, carpets should be cleaned before they “look dirty”.  Carpets are designed to hold at least one pound of soil per square foot before they begin look dirty!
